On September 29th, 1986, Iron Maiden released their sixth album, Somewhere in Time. Like many of their covers, the artwork was created by Derek Riggs, who snuck dozens of references to the bands previous work and their lives in his art. Here are 32 hidden references made on the front and back covers of the album, which is now 32 years old. FRONT COVER: 1. The street is named Acacia, much like the Number of the Beast track 22 Acacia Avenue. The poster shows Eddie from the bands debut album with graffiti that reads Eddie lives. Torn posters also appear on the covers of the Sanctuary. The cover artwork by Derek Riggs features the Pharaoh Eddie monument from Powerslave and Cyborg. Iron Maiden's most intricate album cover explained in detail. NWOBHM legends Iron Maiden released their album Somewhere In Time on this day in 1986. Its one of their most intricately detailed album covers and layered with many in-jokes and nods to their past. Artist Derek Riggs spent weeks on the 32-inch by 15-inch painting. Somewhere in Time Iron Maiden album. Somewhere in Time is the sixth studio album by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It was released on 29 September 1986 in the United Kingdom by EMI Records and in the United States by Capitol Records. It was the band's first album to feature guitar synthesisers. Since its release, Somewhere in Time has been certified platinum by the RIAA, having sold over one million copies in the US. Somewhere on Tour was the album's supporting tour. Blabbermouth also added that the Italian Iron Maiden website Maiden Concerts uploaded a thread of social media posts that showed the members of the bands, their family members and Shirley were all in Paris at the same time. Frontman Bruce Dickinson also hinted at new music several times throughout their 2019 Legacy of the Beast tour, saying new Maiden songs would be coming sooner than you think. Again, this is all speculation, but even the thought of it is exciting enough. Until we get some form of confirmation, see Maiden's 2020 Legacy of the Beast dates here. Live performances of self-titled album track, Iron Maiden, still often mark the entrance of the bands mascot onstage. Prev Page 3 of 70 Next. Single, released 23 May 1980. Pay-back time for the Iron Lady Here Riggs draws Thatcher waiting for Eddie holding a submachine gun. If that wasnt controversial enough, Ed's somehow managed to pull a nurse and a school girl. Eddie returns to his pre-Number Of The Beast long-haired days for this live album cover. The gravestone he is rising from reads Edward T H- with the remainder of his full name obscured. Another grave nearby reads Here lies Derek Riggs. The weakest album from Iron Maiden's classic 80s period, Somewhere in Time is really the first true disappointment in their catalog, too often collapsing under the weight of their now-trademark ambition. Though it sold well on the heels of the hugely successful Powerslave tour, and is often regarded as underrated by Maiden devotees, it clearly finds the band struggling to refresh what was rapidly hardening into formula. The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner is far and away the least suitable subject for an extended epic that the band has ever undertaken, and the music itself offers little catharsis. Iron Maiden's longtime producer Kevin Caveman Shirley insinuated that the band secretly worked on a new album in the first half of 2019. Iron Maiden released The Book of Souls in 2015, the same year singer Bruce Dickinson revealed a cancer diagnosis. The band delayed touring until Dickinson was given a clean bill of health, launching The Book of Souls World Tour in early 2016 and wrapping it up in summer 2017. Maiden then announced The Legacy of the Beast Tour , spending good portions of 2018 and 2019 on the road, and recently announcing more dates for 2020
